Tina Snow is back: Megan Thee Stallion’s alter ego settles scores on thin ice
Tina Snow is back. Megan Thee Stallion’s alter ego, born on the 2018 EP of the same name, has been taking the mic every Tuesday since late September. Episode three: Thin Ice, released October 20 on her YouTube channel, along with its video.
This time, Megan raps over Limp Bizkit. The sample comes from Break Stuff, taken from the band’s 1999 album Significant Other. With producer Buddah Bless, she slows down Fred Durst’s spoken passage and turns it into the backdrop of the track. Her flow runs over it, cold and methodical. Along the way come a nod to James Brown and the name Tina Montana. The video is set in a warehouse, with Megan dressed all in black, hair platinum blonde.
The Tina Tuesday series kicked off with a take on Still Tippin’, Mike Jones’ Houston classic, followed by Is You Cool? on October 6. Tina Snow is the Megan from before WAP. According to The Fader, the character draws on Tony Snow, the alter ego of Pimp C, the Houston rap figure behind UGK. “Tina is grown now, babe,” she said on Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson’s IMO podcast, speaking about Tina’s return on MEGAN ACT III: HOUSE OF TINA. On August 14, Megan signed a distribution deal with Interscope. She keeps full ownership of her masters and publishing, and continues to release music through her own company, Hot Girl Productions. “This distribution partnership with Interscope allows me to stay true to my creative vision,” she said in the announcement.
The album has no release date yet.
Her previous record, Megan, came out in 2024 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200.
Since the summer, Megan has been hinting that rock will have a place on the new album. Three days after the Interscope announcement, she posted behind-the-scenes footage from a photo shoot with a real wolf, soundtracked by Change (In the House of Flies), the Deftones song released in 2000. The album title, House of Tina, echoes its phrasing. On TikTok, a fan told her she loves the Queen of the Damned soundtrack too. That’s the soundtrack to the 2002 vampire film, heavy on metal. Megan replied in all caps: “DO.” The taste goes back a while: in 2019, she attended Dia de los Deftones, the festival the band hosts in San Diego.
The house of Tina is being built one Tuesday at a time.
